I often think you can get through just about any situation as long as you keep a sense of humor about you. That’s how I know Diana and Jeff will cruise through their life together keeping cool through it all. Because they are always laughing. Always smiling. Always reminding each other to have a sense of humor.

Jessica & Steve | Engagement: Gallup Park, Ann Arbor

Happy Monday morning to you! To ease into the week, I wanted to share some of my favorite photographs from Jessica and Steve’s Ann Arbor engagement shoot. I am SO glad I had the chance to meet these two on their quick trip from Boston and am also SO very excited for their wedding celebration next month at Weller’s Carriage House.

Jessica and Steve seem like the kind of couple you could grab a coffee or a glass of wine with, hear some great stories and wonder how three hours went by so quickly. I just love that. I also love that Steve is from Maine so he is, of course, incredibly nice – which falls totally in line with everyone I’ve ever met from Maine. (Add that to my list of reasons that Vacationland is one of my favorite places on the planet.) As we walked around the park, Steve greeted each passerby as if they were all personal friends. To which Jessica would laugh with a little wonderful adoration on her face…

Paige & Adam – Engagement: Royal Park Hotel, Rochester

The very first time I met with Paige and Adam, two hours flew by before we all realized it was well into the day and each of us still needed to eat lunch! But, as we sat there talking about some of my favorite things – from northern Michigan to wine to December weddings to great food – I just lost track of time and felt like I was catching up with old friends. Last week, we got together for an engagement session in Rochester and, again, had such a nice time. I couldn’t be more excited to see these two get married in December as well as to capture all of the beautiful details they have in the works!

Adam proposed to Paige on the Paint Creek Trail near the Royal Park Hotel so we thought it was fitting to go back and properly record it all. It was so neat to hear their story again as we walked along the trail – Adam’s attention to every detail that went into the proposal, Paige’s fear when Adam told her they “needed to talk,” and, of course, how it all worked out perfectly.

We decided to pop into the Royal Park Hotel for a few classy images. And, by classy, I mean that I have subtly omitted the photographs of Paige and Adam karate chopping the perfect little pillows on the perfect little couches in the perfect little sitting area of the hotel.

Then, after a quick clothing change, we took a spin around downtown Rochester before we headed back to the Royal Park for a glass of wine. And that, my friends, is a great evening!

Paige & Adam: I officially am counting down until December now – I cannot wait to see you guys in all of your wedding day glory! Thanks for such a great time and for being so open to sharing so many great stories with me. I hope you guys enjoy the preview! Hugs,

Jillian & Mike – Engagement: MSU Gardens, East Lansing

There’s a certain level of giddiness people have when they’ve dated since high school and are just a few weeks away from their wedding day. And it’s pretty fun to be around.

I met up with Jillian and Mike last week for their engagement session at the MSU Gardens and their energy amazed me! I’m SO looking forward to their Ann Arbor wedding in just a few short weeks.

Jamie & Mike – Engagement: Comerica Park, Detroit

It’s so fun when a couple has a place that’s super special to them and it also serves as a great backdrop for an engagement session. Well, meet Jamie and Mike! While attending a Tigers game one magical day, the world brought them together for the first time and now they’re getting married! We headed to Comerica Park for their session and I’m so happy to have captured them in the very first place they met…

Ashlee & Andrew – Engagement: Kensington Metropark

As soon as Ashlee and Andrew told me they met at a bonfire, I knew they were my kind of couple! I love their story and I also adore how, before anything else, they seem to be great friends.

We met last week at Kensington Metropark because they wanted a fall backdrop for their engagement photographs. Well, let’s just say we sort of had to work hard to find trees with any leaves on them at all but Ashlee and Andrew remained dedicated and tromped through tall grasses and fields just for the cause. They pretty much rock. :D

I love, love, love all of these pumpkins!

Ashlee and Andrew: Congratulations again! I had a great time with you guys at Kensington and am SERIOUSLY looking forward to next June. I can tell your wedding is going to be such a great celebration! Best of luck to you both with all of your work and goals between now and then. All the best,

Christina & Jerry – Engagement: Rochester, Meadow Brook Hall

They say you’re supposed to eat healthy. And you’re supposed to exercise. And lead a well balanced life. And brush your teeth at least twice a day. It’s a lot to keep track of. So that’s why there are people out in the world to help you reach your goals. Admittedly, probably fewer that’ll help you brush your teeth than will help you learn the best ways to eat and exercise. But that’s what Christina does. She helps people. Christina is a personal trainer at a local gym and that’s how she and Jerry met. Together, they came up with a plan to help Jerry reach his goals. Well, I have to imagine that’s a pretty good recipe for romance and it turns out it was true for them. Here they are now, engaged, competing in triathlons together, and getting ready for the next leg of their beautiful story to begin.

Here are a few of my most favorite images from Christina and Jerry’s engagement session last weekend at Meadow Brook Hall in Rochester. This place is gorgeous and I know their wedding there next year will be nothing short of a dream. Congratulations, Jerry and Christina!

Ooh, how I loved this gate area with all of the flowers. I wanted to pick it up and take it with me!

And I really couldn’t choose a favorite from this series on the steps. I love them all!

I loved when Christina put this dress on because immediately she whipped out a little sass that I adored! I totally encourage my couples to wear something that will make them feel great and I really think Christina rocked this!

Christina and Jerry: It has been SO great getting to know your story a bit better and, Jerry, to catch up after so many years! You guys are an incredible couple and I love seeing how much fun and excitement you clearly have together. Congratulations again and SO many great wishes to you as you prepare for your wedding day!

Cory & Diana – Engagement: Ann Arbor

I kept telling them that I’d never given this little direction at an engagement session before. And they just kept saying, “well, we don’t get to see each other that often.” So, really, that’s how Cory and Diana’s engagement session went. I was a little bit like paparazzi just following them around and waiting for their next soulful gaze into each other’s eyes or burst of laughter. Every now and then I’d pipe in with some guidance but, for the most part, these two just had so much love and expression between them that they didn’t need me interrupting.

We spent the morning at Matthaei Botanical Gardens (read: amazing Saturday morning) and then headed into downtown Ann Arbor for some time at Nickels Arcade and the Law Quad. The morning was great and it is so clear the love and appreciation these two have for each other. Check it out!

Umm, really?

This is when Diana looked up at Cory and said, ” you’re so cute.” Too much!

See, they didn’t need me!

So, if you’ve seen the movie 500 Days of Summer, you probably remember the scene where there’s a cartoon bluebird fluttering about while everyone is dancing and singing in the park. I think that scene is both ridiculous and hilarious but it’s definitely a happy one. Well, something I didn’t notice until I was giving these images their first edit was the butterfly prancing around Cory’s head in the photo on the left. Kind of like the cartoon bluebird with all of the happiness of love. I’m thrilled we caught that!

Cory purchased Diana’s engagement ring at The Arcadian Antiques so I love that these images have a bit of a story behind them…

Liz & Stephen – Engagement

We met a few months ago after I read an excited email from Liz telling me that, while she and Stephen were not engaged yet, they would be any minute and that she’d like to set up a time to discuss her wedding photography with me. I immediately liked her style. I mean – small secret here – reaching out to me even before getting engaged made me feel pretty special and her excitement made me excited. So we met a short time later when they had made it all official and they filled me on all of the details of their wedding day – from the vineyard they’d be getting married at to the antique blue glass Liz was on the hunt for. I could already sense all of the heart that was between these two and how much of it would be poured into the details of their wedding day. I could already tell that Stephen was a bit of a dreamer, like me, and that he was totally smitten with Liz. And I could already tell their wedding day would be full of all of the emotions I love to photograph. And now I can’t wait to be there. But, for now, I want to share a few images from their engagement session last weekend at Cranbrook which happens to now be planted on my list of favorite places to shoot…check these two out!

Liz and Stephen: I can’t wait for your wedding! I can already tell how your excitement and appreciation for each other will echo throughout the day and I am so thrilled that I will be there to not only witness but also to capture those emotions so you can tell your story for centuries. You guys are such a sweet couple and I feel so lucky we’ve connected. See you in less than a month!

Chelsey & Brent – Engagement

“Without the Capitol, we never would have met,” Chelsey told me. Brent was a page for the Michigan legislature at the same time as his good friend, Alan. Alan and Mariam introduced Brent to Mariam’s good friend, Chelsey, and they’ve been dating ever since. Don’t you love it when life works out that way? I do. I also love when couples have totally perfect reasons like that for the places they choose to have their engagement session. And the Michigan State Capitol Building is a gorgeous backdrop nonetheless!

Chelsey and Brent: I had such a great time with you guys! Thank you so much for being so open to ideas and, Brent, for facing your fear of heights along the way. I hope you love some of the images we captured. Thanks for letting me be a small part of this happy time in your lives!
