Gone Hiking

Eric and I are heading to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (and, yes, it’s important enough to have a capital “U” and a capital “P”!) tomorrow for a long weekend of backpacking to celebrate his 29th birthday. Usually we ring in his birthday by heading to the center of a metropolitan city to see a baseball game and soaking in the surrounding sights but this year he opted for something a little more relaxing. Well, maybe more active is the word – followed by a few relaxing hours in camp. We’ll be hiking along the North Country Trail – a trail that spans over 4,500 miles from North Dakota to New York but has the largest amount of miles in one state here in the great state of Michigan. While part of me thinks it would be amazing to thru-hike it from beginning to end all at once, I’m happy hiking in little sections that will one day piece together into something substantial. Because, you know, it’s the little things.

We’ll be back on Monday but, for now, here are a couple of photos from the last section of the NCT I hiked last summer in Pennsylvania. Happy trails!
