What Sixty Years Looks Like…

Recently my entire family got together to celebrate a once in a lifetime event – the 60th wedding anniversary of my grandparents! Having only been married for about a year and a half, I can only dream of one day having a similar celebration with Eric. The day was gorgeous and I wanted to take the opportunity to get some photographs of their pride and joy, their garden, since it was out in full force. Their backyard has always been an escape for our family and we’ve spent many a summer day sitting on their patio enjoying the view while the fountain in the pond provided subtle calming noises.

Both of my grandparents love birdhouses so their gardens are peppered with an amazing display! Some of these are handmade by my grandpa, who has always created amazing things out of wood…

This image on the left is the gate into their backyard – and I’m pretty sure my grandma painted that basket herself. They are both so creative!

And here is the yard and gardens they have spent over 40 years working on. It is absolutely magnificent!

Their yard is lined with evergreens and I have a lot of great memories of my cousins and I playing behind these trees for hours – burying treasures and acting like we were in the forest. This must be where I fell in love with the woods. :D

So, as I was walking around their yard, it occurred to me that they had so many little creatures out there watching over them – no wonder they’ve gotten to their 60th anniversary with so much happiness.

And, of course, here they are – my wonderful grandparents! Congratulations, Grandma and Grandpa – and thank you for setting such a great example for all of us to follow. We love you!

I love the image on the right of them looking right at each other. You might not be able to tell, but having been around my grandpa for so long, I know that he’s about to break into tears…that’s just how he is.
